Re-imagine GLOW presents a magical Festive Windows Pantomime Trail around the city. Begins tomorrow Wednesday December 2nd
Experience the magic of Christmas as the much-loved festival GLOW, A Cork Christmas Celebration which is organised by Cork City Council opens this Wednesday December 2. GLOW which has been re-imagined this year will feature a magical Windows Pantomime Trail which is an ode to Panto in Cork and the much loved and iconic 32m Ferris Wheel.

We have re-imagined Glow this year so we can all safely enjoy and celebrate Christmas in Cork. So keep your eyes peeled for our trail of 10 festive windows dotted around the city centre. To be fair, you won’t be able to miss the Panoramic Ferris Wheel and Carousel which is back on Grand Parade with robust safety measures in place.
Stroll through the city and discover a treasure trail of pure Cork magic which brings some of the most popular Panto titles to life in window installations with plenty of surprise Panto characters and gorgeous stories to make each and every attendee feel as much a part of the magic as if they were in a real interactive theatre!
Beautifully created by Sinéad Dunphy from Eventi Management, with set design by Lisa Zagone, and projection mapping and sound designed by Cormac O’Connor, animations by Barry McCarthy and voiceovers by West End Star Michael Sands; each window represents a traditional Pantomime title in the artistic fashion of a theatre model set box. The stories of Cinderella, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Hansel & Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Beauty & the Beast, Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel will be told in its own designated window on a magical walking tour of Cork City Centre.
Through various design techniques including lighting, animation, and projection mapping design, the wondrous trail brings Panto and Christmas to the people of Cork, so all the boys and girls (young and old) won’t miss out on this locally loved Christmas tradition.
As part of Re-imagine GLOW, the Ferris Wheel makes a welcome return to the Grand Parade. Experience amazing views of Cork on the 32m Ferris Wheel which will be open from December 2 until January 10 with safety being its top priority. See www.corkchristmascelebration.ie
This December, Cork City Council and the Cork Business Association are calling on people to shop in Cork and to shop locally for Christmas.
Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Joe Kavanagh said: “Christmas in Cork has always been a coming together of people. And this year as part of our ‘Thank Cork it’s Christmas’ campaign, we are encouraging the people of Cork to come together like never before to support our local retailers, craftspeople, arts and cultural centres and hospitality sector who have faced challenges that we couldn’t have anticipated this time last year. We all need you to think local first,” he said.
“We must remember that crowds pose serious risks this year. So please take care: observe social distancing, wear a mask, aim to get your shopping done earlier this year and if life allows you to, try to shop at off peak times. We all share in this city and share in its future: so shop safely and shop locally”.
During December, North Main Street and Paul Street Car Parks will open early on Sunday mornings and customers can avail of two hours free parking in Paul Street and North Main Street Car Parks, from 07:00 to 00:00, Monday to Sunday. See www.corkcity.ie for details of parking and Park and Ride.
