Gardaí in Cork City have seized suspected illegal drugs valued at approximately €75,000 and arrested a man in his 40s during a search operation on Wednesday, 31st July 2024.

As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí attached to the Anglesea Street Divisional Drugs Unit, targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in Cork City, carried out a search under warrant at a premises in Blackrock, Cork City.

During the search, approximately 1 kg of suspected amphetamine with an approximate value of €15,000 and 3 kg of suspected cannabis valued at €50,000 were seized. Additionally, a number of mobile phones and a quantity of cash were confiscated.

The drugs seized will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

The man arrested in connection with the investigation is detained pursuant to Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Cork area. Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2nd July 2021. Operation Tara focuses on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug trafficking networks at all levels—international, national, and local—involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs.
