  • On May 27th, 2023, CUH Charity Triathlon will take place at Farran Wood, Cork, raising funds for Cork University Hospital and Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The second annual CUH Charity Triathlon, supported by Blackwater Motors Group, is set to be a bigger and better event with the aim of raising even more funds for CUH Charity and its mission of saving and changing lives for patients at both hospitals.

Last year’s event raised €60,000 to aid cancer services at CUH and CUMH. This year’s CUH Charity Triathlon aims to secure even more funds which will go towards purchasing new equipment where it is most needed and improving services for patients across Munster.

Dr Richard Bambury who is a Medical Oncologist at Cork University Hospital (CUH) and took part in 2022’s triathlon said:

Last year’s Triathlon was brilliant. It was such a feel-good event; seeing friends and families from the local community gather to take on the Triathlon or cheer on their loved ones was something special!

Working at CUH, I’m fortunate to see first-hand how the funds raised make a great impact in ensuring our patients receive the best care possible. I strongly encourage anyone considering entering this year’s triathlon to sign up now.

The CUH Charity Triathlon is a fun ‘sprint’ style triathlon with both individual and team entry options available, making it suitable for both novice participants and those who want to challenge themselves. There are two race distances on offer for entrants; either a 1000m swim, 32km cycle and 6km run or a 500m swim, 32km cycle, and 3km run.

Participants are expected to meet a fundraising target of €500. There is also an entry fee of €40 for individual participants or €110 for teams.

New for 2023, CUH Charity has introduced a race timing system so that entrants will be able to have their triathlon time officially tracked and counted. This year’s event will also be greener as CUH Charity have partnered with Refill Ireland, a non-profit organisation committed to preventing single-use plastic waste, to provide greener water stations.

This year’s triathlon is supported by Blackwater Motors Group, the well-established and authorised Volkswagen Passenger & Commercial Vehicles, Audi, SEAT and Ora dealership. Blackwater Motors is sponsoring for the second year running.

Michael O’ Brien, Head Of Business from Blackwater Motors said:

Blackwater Motors Group are delighted to continue our sponsorship of the Triathlon, the CUH Charity is one we are proud to support as we know the funds raised will go directly to provide the best care to the patients.  We really enjoyed being involved with the event last year and are already looking forward to this year’s event.

The CUH Charity Triathlon takes place on Saturday 27th May, in Farran Wood, Cork and starts at 2 pm. To register and book your place, visit www.cuhcharity.ie/triathlon23
