Popular courier service, Fastway yesterday notified customers of a Data Breach. In the breach; names, addresses and contact details belonging to hundreds of thousands of users were compromised.

In an email issued to customers, Fastway said the following:

We were recently engaged by Smyths Toys to deliver a parcel or parcels to you. In order to do this, we recorded not only your name and address but also your email address and telephone number.

Regrettably, we suffered a cyber-attack from a hacker in which this personal data of yours was compromised. As we do not hold any financial or other sensitive personal data relating to you, no other personal data has been compromised. Nevertheless, you should be extra vigilant in relation to any unsolicited communications, such as marketing emails or SMS or communications which request that you confirm your contact details or passwords, including those which may purport to be from Fastway or from Smyths Toys. We will never request any financial information from you. We also remind you to avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails.

We have reported this incident to the Data Protection Commission and to An Garda Siochána.

We continue to investigate how this occurred so that we may prevent any such data breach in the future. What we have determined is that our system was vulnerable for about two days from the morning of 24 February 2021 and that in that period your personal data (as described above) and such personal data of many other people was accessed by a third-party hacker.

We apologise to you and to Smyths Toys for this deeply regrettable breach of our data protection systems.
