Cork County Council has confirmed that in recent weeks, batteries and solar panels used to power speed detection signs and public lighting have been dismantled and stolen from locations across Cork County.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Ian Doyle commented

“These batteries are essential for the proper function of this important road safety equipment. The thefts are acts of vandalism and will jeopardise road safety in our towns and villages. Our communities are immensely proud of the activities undertaken at local level to enhance their area and work with the Council to protect these amenities, acts such as this are immensely damaging to our rural communities.”

Cork County Council has advised that the stolen items are of little value outside of their intended use.
