It’s Community Week in Cork and the City Council took the opportunity to send a little gift to the community response teams across the city who’ve volunteered throughout COVID-19 to support and assist those who’ve been cocooning or needed a little extra help.

Some of the many volunteers from Ballyphehane and Togher shown here enjoying their rainbow cupcakes that say Go raibh Maith Agat and the Hold Firm message as we’re still on the Covid Roadmap.

In the past months the Community and Voluntary sector came to the fore in their excellent response to COVID-19. Under the umbrella of the Cork City Community Response Forum, community and voluntary groups stepped up to aid the most vulnerable when they needed it most.

It was decided that rather than single out individual groups for awards, the Lord Mayor on behalf of the City would honour all the community groups and volunteers who proved that community spirit burns bright in this city. Cork City Council will air a special YouTube ceremony on Thursday 11th June at 7.30pm to recognise this immense community and voluntary effort.
