An Garda Síochána today launched a new 17 seater Community Policing Mini Bus that will service the community in the Togher District.

An application was made by An Gardaí Síochána to the Community Enhancement Programme via the Revitalising Areas through Planning Investment and Development group (RAPID), (Area Based Committee) for consideration by the Local Community Development Committee. (LCDC) The Cork City LCDC awarded funding under the Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) 2018 fund for the delivery of the community bus.

Speaking at Togher Garda Station today, Superintendent Colm O Sullivan said, “I am delighted that An Garda Síochána is once again able to now provide this service to the local community in Togher. Schools, elderly groups, youth clubs, soccer and GAA clubs and are just some of the groups that will benefit. Providing this service gives us a great opportunity to enhance our existing strong links within the community”.

Cllr Fergal Dennehy, Chairperson of the LCDC stated “The Cork City LCDC are delighted to have played its part with An Garda Síochána in delivering such a fantastic resource for the Togher community”.

Lord Mayor Cllr John Sheehan added his words of support, “I want to commend all involved in this venture to provide transport that connects geographically but just as importantly, this Mini Bus connects communities, connects services and connects community policing”.

Speaking at the launch of the event, local youth worker, Cllr Thomas Moloney said “This bus service that Gardaí offer means a lot to us in Togher. It not only saves our community group’s money, it gives us the chance to get to know some of our Community Gardaí better.”

The community bus will allow Gardaí to engage directly with local community groups. This free services would see a Garda driver bringing groups to outings and functions. Any group in the Togher area wishing to utilise the bus can contact Togher Garda Station on 021-4947120
